If you can’t leave your mark give up. Su arte pubblica, street art e politiche della memoria

Filippo Fimiani

Abstract

Just over thirty years ago, Jenny Holzer posted Truisms in Man-hattan’s SoHo district. But what’s the difference between these sentences, in alphabetical order and in conflict with each another, and billboards and graffiti all around? How to describe and define the distinction between public art, street art and ad-vertising, once, after the death of modern art decreed by Arthur Danto, the signs of the world of ordinary life and those of the artworld appear indiscernible?

Keywords

Public art; Street art; Ordinary aesthetics
